Our volunteers are vitally important for providing hope and healing to the residents of our program. Surrounding our residents with community members who believe in and value them is an important part of their healing process. Tabitha Ministry is deeply appreciative of your willingness to serve as a volunteer.

Tabitha’s Taxis

Residents are not permitted to drive. Tabitha Ministry uses a passenger van to transport the women to work, church, and group activities.  However, each resident is responsible to inform Leadership of necessary personal appointments in the community for medical services, court commitments, and clerical tasks with offices such as the DMV. Tabitha Staff then communicates the personal transportation needs by email to volunteers for the upcoming week. Drivers may commit to as many or as few shifts as desired.  A valid NC driver’s license and personal auto insurance is required.

Tabitha’s Teachers

Residents are required to attend 10 classes each week on a variety of subjects, such as Bible study, self-esteem, and overcoming addiction. Special skills classes are also provided, such as life skills and spiritual dance.  Teachers must demonstrate their spiritually maturity through an interview with Leadership.

Tabitha’s Closet & Furniture Nook Assistant

Residents are required to volunteer in Tabitha’s Closet or Furniture Nook 20 hours per week. Volunteers are needed to cover shifts when a resident travels to a personal appointment or whenever a higher volume of customer traffic is anticipated.

Special Events

Tabitha Ministry holds special events throughout the year to market the ministry and raise funds.  In addition, a small group of volunteers with the gift of hospitality are necessary to welcome new residents as they transition into the program. When a resident completes the one-year program, volunteers are needed to set up and clean up a festive occasion to celebrate the resident’s accomplishments.

Special Assignments

Tabitha Ministry needs more “muscle.”  The thrift clothing and furniture stores require a lot of hauling.  Volunteers are needed to move furniture, haul boxes, and help out with heavier lifting.

Groups are also welcome to volunteer with Tabitha Ministry with special arrangement.  Sometimes youth groups or bible studies offer their services for special assignments, such as fence painting or mulching in the gardens.

Male Volunteers

Tabitha Ministry welcomes male volunteers. However, due to the nature of the traumas that residents have experienced, special arrangements must be made to accommodate male volunteers if there is work required at Tabitha House or in the thrift stores when the women are present. Males are not able to serve as teachers or drive residents.
